Trip to Kuala Lumpur - Batu Caves, Suria KLCC and Petronas Twin Towers

So after a lot of shopping and a little bit of sight seeing on Day 1 in KL we thought we needed to start day 2 by doing something a little different and hence decided head to Batu Caves.

For people familiar with South Indian Culture and gods , Batu caves holds a very special place in our hearts as it is home to one of the most majestic statues of Lord Murugan. Though we have heard of this place a lot of times , and even seen movies where scenes were shot here , we had never got the chance to visit this place once, and it was a dream come true when we finally did. All that we can say is that any one would get blown away at first sight of the majestic statue of Lord Murugan.

How we got there ?

We took an Uber from our apartment in Lorong Binjai to head to Batu Caves. You can get there using public transport too, but Uber / Taxi is the fastest way to get there ( took us around 30 min ) and it is quite economical too ( around 15 RM or 5 SGD )

What to do at Batu Caves ?

Temples and the Ramayan Cave

Apart from the temples/ shrines at the top there are 2 other temples , one  at the base of the caves and towards the left of the Murugan statue. As soon as you enter take a left and walk few hundred meters to the left to go to one temple and the Ramayan caves. There are also lot of small fancy shops for you to pick up some souvenirs which are quite cheap when compared to the main city.

There is an entrance fee to visit the Ramayan Caves, but was well worth the entrance fee as the caves were beautiful and the experience quite surreal. And for those who do not know about the Ramayana, it can be a quick way to understand the basic story line, as there are statues and pictorial depictions of the same. There are huge statues of Lord Vishnu & Lord Hanuman at the entrance of the Ramayana Caves. There is a naturally formed Shivalinga at the top of the Ramayana Caves which should not be missed.

Murugan Statue

Post our visit to the Ramayan caves, we made our way back to the Murugan statue to take in its beauty and majesty again. I can honestly tell you , I really did not want to move away as I stood transfixed.

Climbing the steps

We then decided to climb the 270 odd steps to reach the top. A word of warning for all , it really is not an easy climb. Though we are young , we still found it quite strenuous, but the views from the top and the caves were worth the trip.

Temple at the top

After spending some time at the top we made our way slowly down and saw one more cave ( which we missed while going top. But we dint venture inside as we were quite tired from all the walking. We had lunch at Batu caves and booked an Uber back to our apartment.

Suria KLCC

Of all the malls that we visited in KL we would rate Suria KLCC as the best easily. Be it its location, or the variety of shops available or its restaurants we really enjoyed shopping at Suria KLCC and it was right adjacent to the Petronas Twin towers, making it ideal for a visit before you visiting the Twin Towers. The mall has most of the bigger brands at affordable prices and coming from Singapore we felt it was really worth purchasing here.

Suria KLCC also has a very nice food court with vegetarian options too giving it a few extra brownie points in my book.

Petronas Twin Towers

Since we read online that tickets to the top can get booked really fast, we had pre booked tickets to go to the top of the twin towers. In hindsight , it proved to be a wise decision as we saw a lot of people being turned away when they arrived impromptu.

Our online tickets cost RM 169 for 2 of us around 56 SGD.

Malaysia is not really known for things to be orderly or well organised , but the visit to the twin towers was something of a surprise to us , as the whole viewing experience was efficiently handled by the staff. There was a briefing for a group of people ( around 20 of us ) of our time slot and we first taken to the sky bridge connecting the twin towers.

At the sky bridge one is given 15 -20 min post which an elevator takes you to the top where you are given another 15-20 min. Post your visit to the top you are again escorted to another level where there was info of all the tallest buildings in the world and some souvenirs too.

Tip : We booked the 6 15 slot hoping to see KL both in the day / night , but unfortunately since the sun set a little late, we were unable too. If you want to experience the views of the day and night from the top, try booking the 7 PM slot.

Note : Do not buy any souvenirs from the Petronas towers as they are too costly.Your best place to buy would be the market places.

Do not judge any tourist place based on reviews ,without paying a visit.

The fountains and the views at night

After the visit we did a little more shopping at Suria KLCC , had our dinner and went out to the KLCC park to enjoy the fountains and views of the towers at night. I think the pictures will speak for themselves.

So after a really long day we went back home at around 12 . If given a chance would have stayed a little longer looking at the towers.
